FACTEUR: Fact-Checkers for European Resilience Against Disinformation
The European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) with seven partner organisations – Pagella Politica/ Facta, Faktograf, Newtral, Fact Review, Greece Fact Check, Fact Check Cyprus and Science Feedback is implementing a project titled “Fact-Checkers for European Resilience Against Disinformation: Network for Emergency, Protection and Technology” (FACTEUR) to support independent fact-checking organisations across Europe. The project will strengthen information integrity through four distinct actions:
- setting up a protection scheme for fact-checkers facing legal threats or physical attacks;
- supporting cooperation during crisis situations where malicious actors may exploit information voids;
- creating a repository of fact-checks and a database of disinformation; and
- launching a dedicated fund to support the long-term sustainability and resilience of the fact-checking ecosystem.
The 30-month project aims to foster a more trustworthy information space and free, fact-based debate, contributing to the objectives of the European Democracy Shield. Within the project, Faktograf leads the “Fact-Checking Emergency Response Capacity” activity, with aim to increase the ability and readiness of European fact-checkers to respond to emergency and crisis situations or other particular disinformation pressures with cross-border impact; equip European fact-checkers with state-of-the-art skills, expertise and tools; and support cooperation, and knowledge exchange within the European fact-checking community.
