Health Hazard: An Audience-First Approach in Combating Health Disinformation
The project “Health Hazard: An Audience-First Approach in Combating Health Disinformation” addresses the suppression of health-related disinformation that can lead to restricted access to healthcare, discrimination, and hate speech, particularly targeting vulnerable groups such as women, people with medical conditions, and the LGBTIQ community. Health-related disinformation can also directly affect the course of patients’ treatment and endanger their health.
Through this project, we aim to increase audience involvement in editorial decisions, strengthen investigative journalism on important health topics, and expand our outreach to vulnerable social groups.
To achieve this, we will carry out the following activities:
- Training of Faktograf’s team to enhance audience engagement and develop formats that encourage citizens’ questions on health topics.
- Cooperation with civil society organizations working on health and human rights, in order to identify key disinformation trends and ensure our reporting reflects the needs of affected groups.
- Conducting in-depth investigations and reporting on cases of harmful health-related disinformation, exposing systemic abuses, and debunking narratives and propaganda that undermine trust in science and public health.
- Analyzing identified disinformation and anti-scientific propaganda with the goal of raising public awareness.
The project is implemented by the Faktograf association from August 12, 2025, to May 31, 2026.
